The systems map is a diagrammatic type of model. We use models all the time to make sense of the world around us,
to give it meaning, by seeking out familiar patterns or creating new ones out of all the data we receive. Models are
'representations of perceived reality' which - we should never forget - are always simplifications of the situation itself.
Models are created internally, 'in our minds', which is why two people's models of the same situation can be so different.
They shape our thoughts and actions and lead us to expect certain outcomes from our activities.
