With
a PhD in Astrophysics and a degree in Geophysical Sciences,
Dr. Paul Roche is the main astronomical expert on All
Night Star Party.
He is currently working as
Project Director of the Faulkes Telescope Project, developing
educational programmes based around real research projects,
relating to the use of robotic telescopes in Science,
ICT and Mathematics. He is also the National Schools
Astronomer (funded by PPARC), where he is responsible
for teacher training activities related to the various
robotic telescope projects available.
Previously he worked as Head
of Education at the National Space Centre in Leicester,
where he developed a national educational programme
in Space and Earth Sciences, Astronomy and Phyics. He
has lectured at the University of Sussex, was a course
tutor at the Open University and was a research fellow
at the University of Southampton where he did his degrees.
He has had over 50 papers
published in refereed international journals and is
currently weighing neutron stars and black holes, using
observations from ground-based telescopes in the optical
and radio regions, and space-based satellites for X-ray
data.
