The delicate filamentary structure seen in this beautiful image of the Veil Nebula is in reality the result of one of nature's most violent events - the explosive destruction of massive star.

In this image we see only small portion of a large circular nebula which is located in the constellation of Cygnus. It lies at a distance of 1,300 light years from our Sun.
