Comments:
NGC6822 is located approximately 1.6
million light-years from Earth, in
the constellation Sagittarius. A member of the
Milky Way galaxy's Local
Group, it was discovered by E.E. Barnard in the
early 1880s.
In this image we see both foreground stars
in our own Galaxy as well as stars
in Barnard's Galaxy which, because of their
great distance appear much fainter. The faint
stars which make up Barnard's Galaxy take up
a large fraction of this picture,
the faint amorphous section in the middle,
which fades off towards the corners.
