Comments:
The spectacular Trifid Nebula is bursting with
new stars.
The radiation from the stars that illuminate
the nebula tend towards the blue part of
the colour spectum.
The nebula emission is
caused by light
from the young stars removing electrons from
surrounding gas. When these electrons re-combine
with the gas, light is emitted.
Situated in Sagittarius, it lies about 2200
light years away, in the direction of the centre
of our Galaxy.
