The following sky notes describe what may be seen in the night sky, soon after sunset at the beginning of April, for an observer situated in the UK.
Saturn and Mars remain prominent, but Mars sets soon after midnight. The constellation of Leo (the Lion) is easily recognized by a distinctive sickle-shape of stars that form the head and shoulders. The bright star Regulus marks the Lions heart and a triangle of stars marks the hindquarters. Leo contains a number of moderately bright galaxies visible in small telescopes.
