Hi,
Using an astronomy program, 'Starry Night Pro' , we noticed that
Jupiter would appear to graze the Moon from our location, Aintree,
Liverpool, at about 6pm on the evening of January 26th 2002.
The day came and the weather looked okay, but all forecasts were
for cloud and rain. Another opportunity missed, we thought. To
our surprise the weather improved and at 4pm the sky was clear.
We put our trusty 9-22x50 Opticron binoculars on a camera tripod
and peered at the rising Moon through the living room window.
Even in daylight, Jupiter was clearly visible and right where
Starry Night predicted. We decided a webcam recording through
our Meade 10" LX200 was in order but on opening the loft
window found the wind was far too strong. So we set up the binoculars
and Meade ETX 90 in the backyard. Over the next hour or so, the
spectacle unfolded beautifully, with the occasional cloud flitting
across without spoiling it. As the sky darkened the Galilean satellites
joined the show. Using an Olympus C3030 digital Camera we took
many images.
If you have
any pictures to submit we would be pleased to hear
from you.
