David Williams - Brightest object in the sky (01.02.2002)

You say in star gazing for this month that Saturn is the brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon. Surely that should be Venus.

Reply from Paul Roche, Final Frontier
Hi David,
Quite right, Venus is currently at about mag. -3.9, with Saturn at 0.0 and Jupiter at -2.5, so Saturn is fainter than both these planets - but it’s currently a great sight through even small telescopes, with the rings clearly visible due to their tilt.
