Economics

Many of the statistics links above also give access to economic data, and to articles describing how economic data and models are used. Particularly relevant sites are those of the UK Government statistics office, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD and the World Bank . Naturally the UK Treasury has much economic information (and commentary), and the World-Wide Web Virtual Library page on Economics has a particularly good set of links to other economics web sites.

An on-line service called called Intute provides links to an excellent range of Web resources for education and research, and it has an economics page. Another site Biz/ed is mainly aimed at students and educators, in business as well as economics. Again there are many unofficial bodies that provide a different view on economics to that you will find in the websites of governments and international agencies; one such body is the New Economics Foundation.

Economics ideas, stories and news seem to be particularly well covered by blogs. Two that you might find particularly useful are the Freaknomics blog and Marginal Revolution . Although both are based in America, they include discussion of some European and global issues. And, finally, our presenter Tim Harford’s website includes a lot of fascinating material.

Mathematics

The Math Forum at Drexel University provides a comprehensive set of Web links to a wide range of mathematical resources. Its Internet Mathematics Library is particularly good.

A similar portal leading to Internet sources of maths information is provided by the (UK) Higher Education Academy Maths, Stats and OR Network. TSM Resources is a web site which offers a range of mathematical web site links, aimed principally at maths teachers it also includies a lot of material of more general interest.

The Mathworld website brings together a particularly comprehensive set of information about all aspects of mathematics, from the simple to the very complicated and technical.
