There's this young girl and she's really inquisitive and goes round asking people loads and loads of questions. She goes up to a blonde girl and says 'why have you got blonde hair?' and she says 'I don't know'. Then she goes up to a brown haired girl and says 'why have you got brown hair?' and she says 'I don't know'. Then she goes up to a boy with ginger hair and says 'why have you got ginger hair?' and he says 'I don't know'. Then she goes up to a girl with green hair and says 'why have you got green hair?' and she says (wiping her hand up her nose and across her head) 'I don't know'.

Shall I tell them the joke about butter?
Better not, they might spread it.

Will you remember my name in a minute? Yes
Will you remember my name in an hour? Of course I will
Will you remember my name by the end of the day? Obviously
Knock Knock? Who's there?

Marie GillespieMarie says

Rosa and Margie are twin sisters from Swansea. This joke is very similar in style to the joke by Luke from Liverpool. It has a clear structure. The punchline relies on a deftly performed gesture that mimics a girl spreading green snot from her nose to her hair.

Kids love jokes about taboo or dirty substances: pee and poo, slime and snot especially. Adults rarely tell 'snot' jokes as it's no longer a 'forbidden'.

In telling the second and third jokes they perform a double act. Lots of kids used this trick in the joke booth to great effect and showed a great deal about how the bonds of sisterhood or friendship are intimately connected to laughter.

The joke about the butter is a very traditional music hall joke that's been in circulation for decades. So although jokes change, some repeat themselves across the generations and different versions of the same joke are created. The final joke is a typical 'knock knock' joke but with a new twist.
