1844
Samuel Morse sends first Morse Code message.
Samuel
F. B. Morse began serious work on his Morse code invention
from 1837, which culminated in the first Morse Code
message being sent on May 24th 1844, from the Supreme
Court Room in Washington, to the railway depot in Baltimore.
This led to the establishment of a network of telegraph
lines to interconnect telegraph stations. People begin
to send messages by electrical means with regularity.
Its use in commerce also required development of ‘compressed’
forms of code. Many developments in the transmission
of electrical signals resulted from the need to improve
the telegraph.
