The AMD-Intel legal battle went on for 8 years. This dispute was settled in 1994 but cost both companies millions of dollars in legal fees. Two lawsuits have been happening more recently involving Intel - The Federal Trade Commission versus Intel , an antitrust action alleging illegal behaviour by Intel monopolizing the production of microprocessors, and The Intergraph Corporation versus Intel , where the Intergraph Corporation is suing its chief supplier of chips on antitrust, anticompetitive behaviour.

The personal computer industry took off with the invention of Intel's microprocessor, which they have continued to develop over the last 30 years. For years Intel have been the king of the microchip, but their market share is being threatened by AMD, who have recently announced record profits. At the same time Intel has announced a worldwide reduction of its labour force by 4000 people.
