Cisco 1984
Cisco Systems Inc was founded by a group of computer scientists from Stanford University in 1984, principally Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner. Cisco was formed to commercialise technology developed at Stanford in the late 1970s to support the campus wide SUNet (Stanford University Network), and to integrate a many local area networks into an integrated whole. Their first products shipped in 1986.

It became a world leader in networking for the Internet with its Internet Protocol (IP).

Today Cisco is looking to make the Internet more dynamic and useful in the future with wireless and optical networking, advanced routing and switching, security and broadband.

As well as new technology, Cisco is considered an innovator in how business is conducted with the Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG), which helps business leaders transform their businesses into e-businesses.
