By now different national networks were being developed world-wide, and the problem of how these networks would communicate was solved by Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn who published a paper on the transmission-control protocol (TCP), which later became separated into two protocols, TCP/IP (internet protocol). This new protocol was adopted by ARPANET in 1983. In the same year, the domain name system was proposed, and in 1986 it was agreed -‘dot.com’ was born.
