APPLICATIONS
So far we’ve touched upon the hardware and the networking aspects of information communication technologies. This section will focus on application, on what computers can do – software and interaction. You think your computer is only good for Web browsing? We’ll have a look at software, specifically some of the earliest applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets. We’ll dip into e-commerce, the buzzword of the 90s and find out why some online businesses succeed where others fail. We’ll have a look at good interface design in human-computer interaction, and why metaphors are useful.

Then we’ll take a look at where ICT technologies turn up, in quite unexpected places. Laurie Keller from the Open University claims They’re Everywhere! (Computers that is!). We’re going to do a bit of future gazing with Prof. Anthony Finklestein of University College, London who takes a nostalgic trip through his childhood to give his view of the future in Enquire Within upon Everything. . Ian Pearson, a futurologist from BT also talks to us about his view of the future of computing in the audio files.
