Forum member Xie_Ming was looking for help with a reference

One of the works of the 300-500 BC era, mentions writing with knotted strings as being the earlies form of writing in Chinese civilization.

This was mentioned as an aside. I tried to find it again, but it was not in the Analects.

Has anyone noted it?
