Mr Robin Sengupta is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Newcastle General Hospital. He has worked there since coming to the UK from India in 1961. He retired shortly after the programme was made. In the programme we see him carrying out one of his last operations. The operation is on Pauline, who has an aneurysm in her brain. Robin puts a clip on the aneurysm to prevent it from haemorrhaging.
Q. What is an aneurysm?
A . An aneurysm is a localized swelling or widening of an artery. The most common type of aneurysm is in the body’s largest artery, the aorta. Aneurysms can also occur in the brain.
