Sonia started her family when she was 19 and
now has three teenage boys. She is used to juggling her time as she
has always fitted in part-time nursing auxiliary jobs around being
a parent.
She has been interested in getting some
qualifications for some time and two years ago she took the plunge.
She successfully studied for an Introduction
to Social Sciences (DD100) and has just finished a second level
1 course, Understanding
Health and Social Care (K100). Since beginning her studies,
Sonia began working regularly as a nursing auxiliary in a hospital
and she would now like to train as a nurse. Sonia discovers that
her employer sponsors students onto the Open
University Pre-Registration Nursing Course. She talks to the
training officer and is advised that she meets the common entry
requirements for nursing and will be considered for a sponsored
place as she has built up several years experience as an auxiliary.
