The Open University offers courses leading
to qualifications relevant to a range of areas of work associated
with children. You can start from any point – many people
begin with no qualifications and some have no experience at the
beginning either. Some of our courses lead to professional awards
and these do have entry requirements, so you may need to get these
first. Many courses of this nature also involve students undertaking
some fieldwork or practice experiences. This means that there are
restrictions on who can apply to some courses with the Open University,
such as the Social Work and Nursing Programmes which only offer
places to students who are being supported by their employer. Other
courses lead to an academic qualification, such as a diploma or
a degree.
An interest in learning about children can
lead to a qualification enabling you to work with children. People
who study our courses with the Open University are all very different,
but many students have experiences and career plans similar to those
of these fictitious case studies.
