Self Descriptions
Although we describe ourselves in all sorts of different ways, self descriptions can be categorised into four broad areas:
PHYSICAL
Descriptions of self which could be observed or identified or potentially be described by others; they are mainly about physical features or physical activities such as:
• objective facts – e.g., ‘I am 8 years old’;
• overt achievements – e.g., ‘I can swim 25 metres’;
• manifested preferences – e.g., ‘I like milk’;
• possessions – e.g., ‘I’ve got a blue bike’;
• physical attributes – e.g., ‘I’ve got brown hair and blue eyes’;
• membership categories – e.g., ‘I am a girl’.
