Child of Our Time
Tried and Tested

It's been five years since Child of our Time started following the progress of 25 children across Britain who were born at the start of the millennium. We've captured both their early successes and setbacks but now they face what could be their most daunting challenge yet. They're about to start school.

Will Taliesin overcome the trauma of moving house? Can Het match her parents' high expectations? Are identical twins, Alex and Ivo, the youngest of our children, really ready for school? Why is Eve about to lose her only friend in class? Will Charlie's chaotic home life prove detrimental? And why would Rhianna who would seem to have many of the skills required to do well, falter?

The different experiences of each of the children reflect what thousands of other five-year-olds go through in their first term at school.

We find out what's required not just to survive but to be happy and successful when our life dramatically changes.

None of our children have all the skills required to immediately settle in at school. But they do have many different abilities, talents, outlooks and social backgrounds and these will influence how they cope during their first difficult weeks in a new environment.

This BBC production is a special interactive fourth programme to finish up series five. It will be shown on BBC1 on Tuesday 25 January 2005.
