Europe's leading independent centre for research and training in plant and microbial science.

Medical Research Council (UK)
The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) is a national organisation funded by the UK taxpayer. They promote research into all areas of medical and related science with the aims of improving the health and quality of life of the UK public and contributing to the wealth of the nation.

Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK)
The Sanger Institute is a genome research institute primarily funded by the Wellcome Trust. Their purpose is to further the knowledge of genomes, particularly through large-scale sequencing and analysis.

Cancer Research (UK)
Founded in 2002 after the merger of The Cancer Research Campaign and Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Today, it is the largest volunteer-funded cancer research organisation in the world. Sir Paul Nurse is Director General for Science of Cancer Research UK, and Dr. Tim Hunt is Head of Cell Cycle Control at Cancer Research UK.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has for many years worked for the elimination of cancer as a cause of human suffering and death. Dr. Lee Hartwell is President and Director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

National Institutes of Health (US)
Begun as a one-room Laboratory of Hygiene in 1887, the National Institutes of Health today is one of the world's foremost medical research centers, and the Federal focal point for medical research in the US The goal of NIH research is to acquire new knowledge to help prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat disease and disability.
