If 'Cell City' has sparked your interest in science, why not take it further with a course from the Open University? More information is available on the Science Faculty website. Alternatively, here are a few suggestions for science courses to suit you, no matter what your prior experience:
1st level courses
Discovering Science (S103)
This course introduces a range of topics from global warming to the origin of life; ecology and genetics to earthquakes and volcanoes; chemical reactions and the structure of atoms to the origin of the universe.
Practising Science (SXR103)
In this residential-school course you will undertake interdisciplinary scientific investigations in laboratories and at a field location.
2nd level courses
Biology: Uniformity and Diversity (S204)
This course introduces a variety of topics across the whole field of modern biology, emphasising that it is a science firmly grounded in observation and experiment. It looks at the common features underlying the enormous diversity of life forms and applies these principles to plants, microbes and animals.
Human Biology (SK277)
This course presents human biology in a way that connects it directly with health and disease. It starts with the concept of a healthy body and explores the mechanisms that enable it to maintain its integrity.
Investigative Biology (SXR270)
In this residential school course you will undertake a series of laboratory-based biological investigations. There are three main investigations: Regulation and control, Energy and Carbon dioxide in plants.
3rd level courses
Molecular and Cell Biology (S377)
This course examines the processes common to all life forms, with emphasis on animal cell biology.
The Molecular Basis of Human Disease (SXR376)
This course includes a residential week in which you undertake a laboratory-based intensive practical project, learning the methods and principles of investigating the molecular basis of human disease.
